Signs in Ireland

In what feels like a quiet little nod to upsetting stereotypes and blurring boundaries, Leo Varadkar, the leader of the Fine Gael party and Ireland's new Taoiseach (an ancient Gaelic term now used for the Prime Minister) is partly of Indian heritage. He is also Ireland's first openly gay PM. He also quoted Seamus Heaney’s The Republic of Conscience in his first official speech, saying: “At their inauguration, public leaders/must swear to uphold unwritten law and weep/to atone for their presumption to hold office." What a country!
